ST PETER’S BASILICA
The vast basilica lies on the site where it is traditionally believed St Peter was put to death in the 1st Century AD. The dome was designed by Michelangelo. The current basilica was mostly built between the 16th and 17th Centuries. Past popes are buried in the church as well as below it.
