Serbia and Montenegro: 350,000 refugees

At the start of 2003, the former Yugoslavia hosted around 350,000 refugees, most of them ethnic Serbs who fled Croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina between 1991 and 1995 during the Balkan wars.

Around 1,700 Macedonian refugees, mainly ethnic Albanians, are living in Kosovo. They fled Macedonia in 2001 during fighting between ethnic Albanians and Macedonian security forces. Not all the refugees here have access to social benefits.
