Al-Qaeda spokesman Sulaiman Abu Ghaith threatens further attacks on US and Israeli targets in an audio statement broadcast by Qatari-based al-Jazeera television.

New York-based Human Rights Watch urges the US to investigate allegations that suspected al-Qaeda and Taleban detainees are being tortured. It follows press reports that the US had been using "stress and duress" techniques to gain information, and handing over some suspects to countries who mistreat and torture prisoners.
