So Kuwait has kept a close eye on Islamists, especially those who have returned from Afghanistan. But its main concern has been Saddam Hussein and it has been supportive of President Bush’s declared intention of effecting a “regime change” in Iraq.
This, Kuwait hopes, would remove the threat it lives under from the Iraqis. Given this background, there is no country in the region more fully supportive of American policy.
