Peter Walker is best known for being energy secretary at the time of the Miners' Strike in 1984.

The MP for Worcester from 1961 to 1992 joined the Cabinet in 1970 and was environment secretary during the controversial reorganisation of local government.

He was minister of agriculture, fisheries and food in Thatcher's first Cabinet and after his stint at energy, was Welsh secretary from 1987 to 1990.
