John Nott was MP for St Ives from 1966 to 1983 and served in Margaret Thatcher's first government as trade secretary, and then as defence secretary during the Falklands War. He was knighted in 1983.
Nott famously walked out of an interview with Robin Day in 1982 after being referred to as a "here today, gone tomorrow" politician. He used the phrase as the title of his autobiography in 2002. He now farms in Cornwall.
