London attacks

Map of Pakistan showing provinces and Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad
At least two of the bombers spent several months in Pakistan. Although families and friends said they had gone to undertake religious studies, it is feared they could have become radicalised, or even trained, by extremists.

Mohammad Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanweer flew together from London to Karachi via Istanbul on 19 November 2004.

They were photographed at the airport as part of Pakistan's PISCES security system which records people who enter and leave the country [see images on right].

It is not known what the pair did while in the country although there are unconfirmed reports that Tanweer visited Faisalabad and Lahore.

The pair were photographed leaving three months later on 8 February 2005.

It is thought that Hasib Hussain also spent time in Pakistan, sometime after leaving school in 2003.

After the London bombings, Pakistan police raided Islamic schools or madrassas across the country.
