Asian states in ex-USSR
 

Overview
One of the smallest complements of foreign-born in Britain covers the central Asian states that were formerly in the USSR: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazahstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

There were just 3,500 people born in this region living in Britain at the time of the 2001 Census.

Many of this group will be Armenian; London has had Armenian communities since the early 20th century as refugees fled persecution. An ethnic-Armenian community still exists in many areas, maintaining strong links between Britain and central Asia.
