The 1735 First Great Western service from London Paddington to Plymouth was carrying 300 passengers.

It stopped at Reading at 1800 GMT and was on its way to the next scheduled stop at Newbury when the crash happened.

The High Speed Train was made up of eight Mark 3 coaches - designed to be robust in a crash - and two diesel engines.

It was due to arrive in Plymouth at 2114 GMT.
