M6
Junctions 4 - 11

The UK's most congested stretch of road. A major artery between southern England and the North West and between southern and central England and north Wales. On top of that there is commuter traffic to and from Birmingham and across Birmingham, and to and from Coventry, Wolverhampton and Walsall. This section of motorway also handles local traffic within the West Midlands. The section between Junctions 8 and 10A also forms a bottleneck with traffic converging from the M5 and M54.

Congestion should be reduced with the opening of the M6 toll road in January 2004.
