A34 Oxford/ Newbury by-pass
The UK's seventh most congested stretch of road. Serves as a major artery between the Midlands and the south and west of England, avoiding M1 and M25 bottlenecks, but not built to motorway standards. Also handles commuter traffic to and from Oxford and to and from the M4 (for London and suburbs) at Newbury. Has sections with 50mph speed limit and doubles as the Oxford western ring road.
Highways Agency says situation will be improved with some planned carriageway repairs and resurfacing in the area.
