On every campaign stop, while the men sit around me, the women stand at the edge or on their balconies. As you can see, Rajasthan's women are very colourful, dressed in bright sarees.
They listen in, others take a glimpse at the visitor. I also appeal to them – they are an important, if silent, section of our population. But their role and their needs are equally important.
Because we are still a very traditional society, I don't approach them directly. Instead, my wife campaigns on my behalf, mingling with them and seeking support.
