'The Taleban have gone'

The date 13 November, 2001, is one I will remember for the rest of my life. My husband woke me to say the Taleban were leaving Kabul. I rushed to the radio station. Because of the US bombing it was in a mess but the technical staff managed to sort things out. After five years, my voice was once again heard.

My first words were "The Taleban have gone". Everybody started clapping, some were laughing, others began to cry. People called to say they couldn't believe they were hearing a woman's voice. It was overwhelming.
