Space repair methods
Nasa is looking at a number of ways to repair damage in space. Two broad types of repair are being considered; application of pre-fabricated, heat-resistant "patches", and the use of chemical filler substances to fill damaged areas.
During Discovery's mission, astronauts Soichi Noguchi and Steve Robinson will experiment with a sticky, grey, tile repair substance called Emittance Wash, and a crack repair technique using material referred to as Noax (Non-Oxide Adhesive Experimental). |
