| Orbiter underside cameras
Discovery has been fitted with a new digital camera in the right-hand side "umbilical well" on its underside. This camera records images of the external fuel tank after it has separated, to check for signs of major foam loss or other defects.
The left-hand umbilical well carries two film cameras which collect images for analysis on return to Earth.
The orbiter has also been fitted with new, more durable heat-resistant tiles on its forward landing gear doors following minor damage to this area during the July 2005 mission. |
