Mars facts

Mars is our immediate neighbour out from the Sun and the most Earth-like planet.

It is smaller than our planet with a surface gravity about a third that of Earth.

The polar caps of Mars are thought to contain both water ice and dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide).

Billions of years ago, Mars may once have been warm and wet. It is now a cold, dry place with a thin atmosphere consisting mainly of carbon dioxide.
