Esther Kintu, 27, is a video editor in Uganda.

"Usually I SMS my friends and my sisters here and even those in England - all for 120 Ugandan shillings (6 US cents). To make a call to my friends in Kampala it would cost 320 shillings (16 US cents), which I wouldn't be able to afford.

"Most of the texts I receive are from friends, but I received one from a guy claiming he was crazy about me. I found that annoying. There are also spam messages from people I don't even know, inviting me to their wedding fund-raising meetings. I have just received this SMS from a friend, it says "GBU" - that means God bless you. I am blessed for just 120 shillings!"
