The Mission

To make the record attempt possible a balloon has been built which is seven times larger than any other which has carried people.

The fragile vessel has a skin similar to that of a domestic freezer bag.

It will take off from the Cornish coast, and once fully airborne it will be visible with the naked eye from London, Dublin and Paris, such is its immense size.

The record breaking attempt will take about 12 hours from lift-off to splashdown.

If everything goes according to plan Andy Elson and Colin Prescot will have broken the record approximately five hours into their voyage.
