Matthew Fortune, 39, from Hengoed, said the cost of fuel had at least made drivers cut down on unnecessary trips. "I'm driving more slowly and trying to make one trip to somewhere once a week rather than a couple of times a week," he said. "When I think of the price of lager, it's £2 a pint and I would only get a litre-and-a-half of fuel for that!"
