The BBC’s longest serving foreign correspondent, Charles Wheeler joined Panorama as a producer in 1956 and stayed with the corporation until his death in 2008. Turning down the editorship of the programme, he went on to report from South East Asia and America covering the assassination of Martin Luther King and the Watergate scandal.
