Hotel for MPs

Twenty-five years after being named the new capital of Ivory Coast, construction work is finally under way in Yamoussoukro.

The small central town was the birthplace of the first President, Felix Houphouet-Boigny.

It is 20 times smaller than the former capital, Abidjan, which is still the economic and political centre of the country.

The first building to be completed is the Parliamentary Hotel, which will soon become a second home for MPs.
