Optic odyssey Underwater observatories use submarine cables to feed information and power to scientific instruments. Telecommunications firm Alcatel-Lucent is constructing the cable system for Canada's NEPTUNE observatory, which will be based at the Juan de Fuca plate off the coast of British Columbia. Fibre optic cables form the basis of the networks. |
