TRADE BALANCE The one figure that has not been favourable for the Blair government is the balance of trade. Britain’s strong growth has been led by consumer spending, and shoppers have preferred to buy the cheap goods on offer from abroad. This points to a weakness in manufacturing, exacerbated by Britain’s strong currency. |
