Pecking order Conservationists are now hoping for a similar recovery in South Asian vultures. Twenty years ago the white-rumped vulture (Gyps bengalensis) was found in vast flocks in India. Numbers have fallen by over 90% through accidental poisoning by a veterinary drug. Banning the drug may bring a return to the bird's former glory. Image: RSPB |
