European plight

A new Red List entrant familiar to UK birdwatchers is the black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa).

It migrates from Europe as far as Australia, but suitable nesting sites in Europe are declining. The main causes are wetland drainage and modern agriculture.

Numbers have fallen by 30% in 15 years.
