Hundreds of thousands of people - many of them Latinos - have been demonstrating across the United States in favour of immigration reform.

They are alarmed by a bill that would increase penalties on illegal immigrants and those who help them, and are demanding it not become law.

March organisers hoped for 180,000 protesters in Washington.
