Launching satellites Most launchers are expendable, so boosters fall into the sea at certain heights. To escape the atmosphere, rockets reach more than 150km and travel over 7.9km a second. Arianespace launches from the equator because the Earth’s rotation "sling-shots" rockets, so less power is needed. Satellites are replaced after 15 years or so. |
