Introduction A moratorium on commercial whaling has been in place since 1986. However, Norway has a legal objection to the ban and has continued commercial hunting of common minke whales, and Japan and Iceland are allowed to catch whales for scientific reasons. Some countries and organisations would like a permanent ban on commercial and scientific whaling, while others seek a return to limited commercial whaling of abundant stocks. |
