Although famous for inventing the automatic machine gun, Hirma Maxim also created this inhaler in the early 1900s when his own health was deteriorating with age.

The inhaler will be displayed along with other historical 'cures' at an event dedicated to medical 'quackery' running at the Science Museum's Dana Centre until April.
