At-a-glance: Health in Sweden
Government

The Swedish health system is much more decentralised than the NHS.

Most of health care is funded through local government taxes, but patients do pay nominal fees.

County councils are responsible for hospitals and GPs, while municipalities provide social care.

The NHS is centrally funded, but 75% of the budget is handed out locally.
