In pictures: WWII cities then and now

Coventry: In the early 1940s, much of the centre was destroyed as the German airforce bombed Coventry, a key UK industrial area. Hit by incendiary devices, the cathedral burned to the ground. The new one was built next to the ruins, as a symbol of reconciliation.
