Growing up among the remote Pamir mountains in Tajikistan can present special challenges.

For this girl who lives in the village of Kalaikum there is a local school, but higher education will mean leaving her own region to study in one of the larger towns many hours' drive away, across the towering mountains which hem in her native valley.
