Boscastle woe

Nowhere was the effect of localised heavy rain more dramatic than at Boscastle in north Cornwall.

On 16 August the area got 64.8mm of rain in one hour and 200.4mm - almost as much as the UK average for a whole summer - in 24 hours.

The result was a flash flood that swept through the village wreaking havoc.
