Taleban resistance
The Taleban were ousted in November 2001, a month after US-led military action against their regime and its al-Qaeda allies. Taleban leader Mullah Omar (pictured on the right) was never captured and the hardline Islamic group has since re-emerged, attacking coalition forces and election officials, killing aid workers and kidnapping foreigners.
