Following the death of Dr David Kelly – the source for the disputed BBC story – Campbell was again grilled in public by lawyers at the Hutton inquiry.

But as he spoke of his "anger" at the BBC, speculation increased that as he had increasingly become the story rather than the story teller, Campbell’s days in Downing Street were numbered.
