Where the money goes The tax levied on petrol by the government has gone up by 1.28p per litre. By the time fuel reaches the forecourt the amount paid in tax dwarfs the cost of pumping, refining and transporting the product. The retailer's portion pays for staff and infrastructure, plus profits of just 2% to 3%. |
