In Pictures:Heart of Darkness meets Apocalypse Now

Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness has been chosen by BBC News Online users to read together to celebrate World Book Day on 6 March.

The book was written in 1899 at the height of the rush by European powers to exploit their overseas empires. However, this novella of the 19th Century is today perhaps best known as the basis for Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now.
