Marlboro Man Until 1955, few people smoked Marlboro – the "Mild as May" cigarettes were largely aimed at women. Philip Morris tried to toughen up its image – using rugged, outdoorsy men in its ads. Particularly successful were images of cowboys – which helped make it the world’s leading brand. Two models used in ads have since died of lung cancer. The widow of David McLean is suing Philip Morris. |
