Chesterfield and the Duchess Always a controversial figure, royal bride Wallis Simpson took to endorsing cigarettes in the 1940s. This war-time magazine ad carries a letter signed by "Wallis Windsor" in which she declares Chesterfield to be the most popular brand among servicemen. "Day in, day out smokers show a preference for Chesterfield," she attests, beside a picture of her offering cigarettes to GIs. |
