"We fought to prove we were British, but were sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1943 with 700 Dutch Jews. I was one of 50 men selected for slave labour. My wife blew me a kiss. Walking through the camp, a truck approached carrying our women and children. In the middle I saw my wife and child in the hats she had made for them. After two minutes the truck moved on and I never saw them again."
