The British Beetle

With the Nazi capitulation, a British officer Major Ivan Hirst took over the factory. He renamed it Wolfsburg, after a nearby castle, and began producing Volkswagen Sedans (or Beetles as they are known in the UK).

Though quite basic, more than 50,000 Beetles had been bought when Hirst handed the plant back to German civilian managers in 1949.
