Egypt is in the grip of inflation. Prices for basic food like rice, macaroni and bread have more than doubled in less than a year. Cooking oil is three or four times what it was in 2007. The price of chicken has risen by 40% in three months. Bread, a staple at every Egyptian table, is becoming too expensive for ordinary Egyptians. So they queue for hours at stores like this that sell subsidized bread.
