In pictures: The UN in Haiti

A typical hiding place for kidnappers to keep their victims. This one was the water cistern for a large house under construction in a wealthy area of Port au Prince. The place is dotted with empty houses, both completed and uncompleted. "Perfect for the kidnappers," say UN policemen Jean Dieudonne, seen in this photo, and his colleague Jacques Bouillon.
