The prince was ahead of his time, first promoting the organic movement in the early 1980s. He is a keen supporter of farmers and spoke passionately about their plight during the 2001 foot-and-mouth crisis.
In 1992, the prince created the Duchy Originals range of organic produce, which uses small farmers as suppliers and gives £1m a year to charity. But it is not without critics – chef Gordon Ramsay berated its salt and sugar levels and the Daily Mail said it was "unhealthier than McDonalds".
