In pictures: Mumbai's water woes

Cactus care

The authorities in the Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay) have reduced water supplies by 30% as it faces one of the worst shortages in its history. The move has affected the lives of many people, including Jayashree and Viju Ranade who live in Girgaum, south Mumbai.

The couple wake up at 0430 and have only about an hour to store water for all the day's chores - including washing, cleaning and watering the plants.
