In pictures: Afghan school life

'I wish I could go to school'

Most people in Sherzad district are poor and rely on agriculture. Until last year farmers grew poppies.

Bas Babu, 14, is a shepherd from the Kuchi nomadic tribe.

"I wish I could go to school. Most of the boys walk with us for hours every day, but if you are a Kuchi, you are expected to take the sheep and goats out, not to study.

"If I were educated, I could do some good work but would also have an easy life."
