In pictures: The Goldman Prize 2009


Yuyun Ismawati

Previous winners have led some of the world’s biggest environmental battles, including seeking justice for victims of the 1984 industrial disaster in Bhopal, India, and campaigning for dolphin-safe tuna.

Yuyun Ismawati was selected for empowering poor people in the Indonesian archipelago to improve their own environment. She develops community-based solutions to the mounting waste management problems in the region.
