Winners are selected by an international jury, from confidential nominations submitted by a network of environmental organisations and individuals.
Russian scientist and 2009 Goldman Prize recipient Olga Speranskaya brought the NGOs in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia together, turning them into an effective force which works to identify and eliminate the Soviet legacy of toxic chemicals in the environment.
