In pictures: Mapping in action

		In-flight message "We're often starting to produce maps even before we go. In Jamaica before Hurricane Dean in 2007, the Red Cross asked us to provide them with a map of areas most likely to be affected by a storm surge. We contacted NOAA for hurricane path data and used a digital elevation model derived from the Shuttle Radar Topology Mission. "We finished off that map in the departure lounge of Heathrow Airport; when we arrived they were already able to identify which areas were priority."
