After two dictatorships and several military coups, Haiti is struggling to get back on its feet.

In 2004, Haiti's President Aristide was overthrown and exiled in a violent uprising and a few months later UN peacekeepers were brought in.

Despite 7,000 UN troops being in Haiti, violent gun crime and high numbers of kidnappings continue.
